Press and Promotion Photography
I have worked on a number of photographic commission in the past for Field & Rural Life Media Group with both photography and written articles, all of which had been used in their online magazine, but this latest commission was a little different. The brief was straightforward and easy to understand, but getting it correct would take a little time and the lighting was critical.
The required images were for press promotion and advertising for The British Shooting Show so naturally there was a shooting theme, ideally a male gamekeeper plus a woman, both dressed in tweeds with a shotgun to give a typical and iconic image of English game shooting.
But it had to be shot at twilight, at very last light to give the images a set of dark tones, no white or pale coloured skies or light coloured backgrounds. The reason for this being the images will be used as the backdrop to advertisements and publicity in print and web with the copy and text set on top.
Making use of my high-speed battery-operated portable strobe lighting, which had to be balanced to the fast fading natural daylight, the shoot was soon underway, but we needed to work fast against the sun disappeared over the horizon.
So it is vital to shoot with dark cloudy skies or dark background but still pick up the people and the fine detail in each shot
Next day, following editing the images were available for the client to view and download.
