It is no secret that I have a strong affection for working dogs, but I have never had as much time working with that other great friend of man; the horse.
So, when I had the opportunity to photograph a ghillie, in The Scottish Highlands, with his working Highland Ponies I jumped at the chance. My time with the ghillie, Eric Starke, plus his ponies Mia and Cally was highly memorable as I watched them working in the step sided Angus Glens bringing the Red Deer Stags off the hill to the road, often over terrain that would be inaccessible to even the high tech modern off-road multi-terrain vehicles.
The photography was part of a wider commission for a magazine article about the use of Highland Ponies by ghillies today
